The girl in the torch

This is a fascinating and beautifully detailed (albeit a tad sugar-coated) story about immigration to America. I guess I haven't read much from that time and place--there's a lot of wonder, heartbreak, and new experiences for Sarah, and it was thoroughly enjoyable to read about them.

Just meh. I almost didn't finish it, but the 2nd half is better than the first.

Sarah is a 12 year old Jewish girl coming to America at the turn of the twentieth century. It is no longer safe for her and her mother after Sarah's father is killed in their village.
